Deep, rich and deliciously relatable, ‘Little By Little’ brings a fresh modern twist to country, as it weaves country-characteristics around a soulful sound-bed of beats and melodies; largely written and produced by Lucy-May and Greg Fitzgerald, with some guest writing collaborations on a sprinkling of tracks. A semi-biographical follow up-album, ‘Little By Little’ delivers a mouth-watering slice of melodic snapshots, which rollercoaster the listener on an exhilarating whirlwind journey through funky, bass line heavy, up-tempo tracks through to deep-rooted heart-felt ballads. Each song is a memory from Lucy-May’s own personal catalogue of life experiences and emotions. The first single from the album, ‘Counting The Days’ was written from the rawness felt by both Lucy-May and Greg as a result of their own separate love losses, where they found themselves in a place where they were simply ‘counting the days’ since the heartbreak hit. Laying bare the rawness of that pain for all to see, Lucy-May’s stunning vocals convey a pure emotion and sentiment that’s nothing short of nerve tingling. ‘Little by Little’ plucks at Lucy-May’s country roots, as her distinctive vocals slip and skip their way through a sound bed of catchy riffs and loops. ‘Ain’t About You’ exposes Lucy-May’s sassy side, a vibrant cheeky up-beat track where she puts the narcissistic traits of other firmly in their place. Beautiful heart-wrenching ballads have a firm place on this album, notably the captivating ‘Mixed Emotions’ which depicts the paradox of feelings evoked when lovers need to take different directions. The instrumental line-up on this album is world class: Ryan Parrino is the guitarist on every track, with Nelson Braxton is the bassist (both are Michael Bolton’s guitarists), Chad Wright, The Jackson’s drummer delivers on drums. Each song on this album is a personal message from Lucy-May, all masterfully written and delivered with such rich, compelling vocals that they demand repeat plays.
