The sonatas recorded here come from two lesser-known printed works by Schmelzer and provide an excellent overview of the chamber music repertoire at the imperial court in Vienna at the end of the 17th century. For the recording, two of the outstanding Italian early music ensembles have teamed up with the Ensemble Aurora under Enrico Gatti and the Ensemble Labyrinto under Paolo Pandolfo.
