Nina Simone - Atlantic Jazz Legends (2026)

Nina Simone’s musical repertoire spans two distinct periods of her career: her years with Colpix Records and her final studio project, A Single Woman. While working with Colpix from 1959 to 1964, Simone recorded such iconic songs as “Forbidden Fruit,” “Work Song,” and “Memphis in June,” accompanying herself as part of a trio. These recordings reflect her artistic independence: reportedly, she prioritized her own artistic choices during these sessions. The second selection of material comes from the 1993 album A Single Woman, produced by Andre Fischer in Los Angeles. Arrangers Jeremy Lubbock, John Clayton, and Simone herself contributed to the project; the recordings feature a full orchestra and pianist Michael Melvoin. According to the credits, tracks such as “If I Should Lose You” and “Marry Me” match the production standards and lineup of the 1992 studio sessions.
