Daniël Lohues is a Dutch singer/songwriter and guitarist who embarked on a solo career in 2006 with the Allennig series of albums after establishing himself as a frontman in the groups Skik and Lohues & the Louisiana Blues Club. Born on February 16, 1971, in Emmen, Netherlands, and based in the village of Erica, he began his career in the late '80s in a band called the Charlies. His next band was the pop group Skik. Comprised of Marco Geerdink (guitar), Maarten van der Helm (bass), and Marlen Davers (drums), in addition to Lohues (vocals, guitar), Skik made their eponymous album debut in 1995 and released several follow-up albums over the course of the late '90s and early 2000s. Meanwhile, Lohues founded the blues band Lohues & the Louisiana Blues Club. Comprised of Keith Keyes (bass), Gralin Neal (drums), and Rob van Donselaar (keyboards), in addition to Lohues (vocals, guitar) and fellow Skik bandmember Geerdink (guitar), the Louisiana Blues Club made its full-length album debut with Ja Boeh (2003), followed by Grip (2005). Lohues then made his solo album debut with Allennig (2006) on Grey Town Recordings. The second volume in the series, Allennig II (2008), was a Top 20 hit on the Dutch albums chart and spawned the Top Ten hit single "Baat Bij Muziek." While the third volume, Allennig III (2009), was similarly popular, reaching the Top 20, the fourth volume, Allennig IV (2010), was the most successful yet, reaching the Top Five. Meanwhile, Lohues scored a Top 40 hit single with "Sneeuwen," a collaboration with Herman Finkers on Grey Town Recordings. ~ Jason Birchmeier
