VA - Steffen Krebber: Neolithic Brass (2021)

Steffen Krebber's music asks about connections - compositional, semiotic and medial. In this sense, his portrait CD including DVD from the EDITION ZEITGENÖSSISCHE MUSIK series even reflects itself as a carrier medium that is far more than just one storage option among many.

On a musical level, references and links between materials, styles and forms of the most varied of forms form a central aspect of Krebber's work. In this context, the Stuttgart-born composer speaks of a “networking mix”. In his opinion, nowadays “the separation of media and branches has broken out, even if this is only gradually realized. Everything overlaps referentially and goes beyond its previously given framework. ”Sound materials interlock, creating new relationships non-stop, for example in the series“ Confusions ”, which is represented three times on the portrait CD. Influences from different spaces and times meet here: Papua New Guinea and Gabon, Renaissance and the present.

The performers - including Ensemble Garage, LUX: NM and Sonar Quartet - create diverse musical organisms from the various elements. Sometimes they seem to consist of memories, sometimes of visions of the future. And yet it is explicitly about musical beings of the here and now.
