Melorie Jane is a contemporary South African Jazz pianist, vocalist and composer.
Her music contains influences of South African jazz and European minimalism and nuances of funk and Hip Hop, grounded in a jazz framework of harmony and improvisation. She released her debut single 'Till the morning comes, followed by a quintet jazz EP, 'Different View' in 2018. She currently resides in Franschhoek and performs in and around Cape Town. Melorie has performed at events such as the 2020 Woordfees at the Spier amphitheater in the University of Stellenbosch Jazz band, with Anna Davel, Gloria Bosman and Lana Crowster. She has also opened the stage for CODA Africa and performed at various other prestigious venues in the area, and performed with her quintet as a student-act at the DSG Auditorium at the Standard Bank National Arts Festival in 2019.
Melorie Jane released two brand new singles earlier in 2021, called 'New Day' and 'Amina', dealing with the challenges experienced by artists through the recent pandemic. Now Melorie Jane proudly presents her latest release, her debut album, 'More or Less', featuring her quintet, Neo Mathebula, Jed Petersen, Alex Mayers and Lilavan Gangen as well as herself as composers, pianist and vocalist. Pieces on this album explores themes of family, of distance and isolation and of connection to people and places which represent home. Find Melorie Jane on online platforms.
