Im Februar 1783 komponierte Mozart die Musik zur Pantomime "Pantalon und Columbine" für eine Faschingsredoute, bei der er selbst den Harlekin verkörperte. Die Besonderheit dieser Musik besteht neben einer bisher unbeachteten Ansammlung später von Mozart verwendeter Motive in der Eleganz der Verschmelzung von Tänzen, Märschen, volkstümlichen Melodien, zarten Kantilenen, Kontrapunktik, breiten Maestosi und empfindsamen Galanterien. Das bezaubernde Werk ist nur fragmentarisch erhalten, wobei die Musik von dem Komponisten Johannes Holik im Stile Mozarts und unter Verwendung anderer Mozartfragmente vervollständigt und die Handlung von Milan Sladek nach dem Vorbild der damals populären comédie italienne rekonstruiert wurde.
