Flautist Maria Fedotova, one of the most sought-after Russian musicians, performs as solo flautist in the orchestra of the Mariinsky Theatre, St Petersburg, under Valery Gergiev and teaches at St Petersburg Conservatory. With her current solo album the artist dedicates herself to the Twelve Fantasias for Transverse Flute without Bass by Georg Philipp Telemann. This cycle counts among the first major compositions of the Baroque era for this instrument, combining melodic as well as harmonic elements into a single linear, monophonic voice. Dance movements and folk music from France and Italy, Germany and Poland are used as models for these artistic master works. Maria Fedotova with her stunning technique and musical intuition proves to be the perfect performer of these lively and swinging fantasias.
