The Swedish Existence Minimum is a one-man band consisting of Magnus Henriksson, who has brought friends and acquaintances when he is ready for his second album. Three years after the debut, which came in 2006, received good reviews and gained recognition both in Sweden and Norway - but unfortunately without much attention.
In addition to his own band, Henriksson has played drums in much more famous Moneybrother. Drummers who become their own gentlemen have throughout the story presented and produced material of very varying quality, so when the acquaintance with Existence Minimum is brand new, it is with blank sheets I sit down to listen to OK Boys.
When Henriksson sits alone and is going to make his own music, it's far from Moneybrothers soul-based rock. In the universe of existence, it's about electronics, simply dressed with his half-spell and fragile voice. The opening Mirrors is minimalist and atmospheric with a beautiful vocal, not quite a Bernard Sumner who has finally been with a vocal teacher. But most importantly, Henriksson (and Sumner) has a great charm with his vocal performance. Bird song should also be mentioned, it has previously been released on single and is possibly cut that has the greatest hit potential. Let deserve to be a hit on the dance floor, and have already had some playing time on Swedish P3.
The room of Existensminium is filled with an atmosphere of electronic pop melancholy with a touch of krautpop. Okay, the songs on OK Boys keep good quality, but still lacking to climb to the top. In particular, it is the total tight packaging, and not least the production, which causes me to feel locked in the basement of Existensminimum. What about getting out of the dark, moving a little more around the house, even daring a trip outside? Then I think the whole experience had got a bigger span. A good example is Sounds of Music that stands out. It's a catchy song with the drums as the driving force and the least electronic of all the tracks. Paradoxically, Plato's best.
But even with certain shortcomings, this disc may turn around several times, and if you like dark electronic crash pop, you're hardly really disappointed with OK Boys.(google)
