Spielleyt, Early Music Freiburg - Camino De Santiago: Medieval Music from Spanish Pilgrimages (2010)

The route to the tomb of St James the Apostle, in Santiago de Compostela, was already one of the most important European pilgrim ways, by the Middle Ages, and its cultural influence spread throughout Europe. There were also important pilgrimage destinations in Spain, like the monastery of Montserrat and the church in Villasirga. The music of the pilgrims and the minstrels, which emerged from these pilgrimages in Spain, can be found in famous manuscripts such as the Llibre Vermell of Monserrat, the Codex Calixtinus and the Cancionero de Palacio. The Spielleyt from Freiburg use instruments, as illustrated in old manuscripts and on church portals, and which recreate the medieval musical life of the Spanish Pilgrimage routes.
