Mivos Quartet - Garden of Diverging Paths (2016) [Hi-Res]

One of todays most adventurous string quartets, Mivos Quartet has dedicated itself to championing new works of great virtuosity and artistic boldness. Described as one of Americas most daring and ferocious new-music ensembles (The Chicago Reader), the quartet embraces music that pushes the technical and sonic boundaries of the typical string quartet. Their newest release, Garden of Diverging Paths, features three recent works for string quartet by US-based composers Taylor Brook, Andrew Greenwald, and Kate Soper. Literary elements inspired each work on this album, as the composers drew from figures such as Jorge Luis Borges, the American minimalist artist Carl Andre, and Alfred, Lord Tennyson. Garden of Diverging Paths not only shows Mivoss dedication to works of considerable difficulty, but also their penchant for compositions that explore a wide-range of musical languages, from microtonality to non-pitched sound worlds.
