Kenny Burrell - The Artist Selects (2005)

Guitarist Kenny Burrell, a native of Detroit, personally compiled the album “The Artist Selects” from his 1950s and 1960s recordings for the Blue Note label. It includes the famous pieces “Midnight Blue” and “Chitlins Con Carne,” along with lesser-known tracks such as “Phinupi.” The musician also wrote the liner notes for the release himself. Although many single-disc compilations drawn from this material exist, the artist’s own selection gives this disc special value and sets it apart from other Burrell compilations.
