Bob Wilber and pianist Dick Wellstood first played together on a regular basis back when they were teenagers in the late 1940s but this LP was their first duet set. With Wilber doubling on clarinet and soprano, the music ranges from "Cornet Chop Suey" and "The Entertainer" to numbers by Fats Waller, James P. Johnson, and Wilber's "Soulful Soliloquy." Heated moments alternate with more lyrical pieces and both Wilber and Wellstood show off their versatility; the relatively complex "I've Got You Under My Skin" was no problem for these two masters. Recommended to fans of prebop jazz. ~ Scott Yanow
