With "Revisit on 3rd Avenue," SAMA-nominated South African artist Qü delivers a rich sonic journey. At its heart is the focus track "The Regime (Reprise)," which continues Qü's tradition of poignant social and political commentary. Across the record, a genre-blending palette of alternative R&B, soul, reggae, dub, and African grooves supports introspective themes of love, spirituality, and personal evolution all crafted under Qü's meticulous, hands-on production.
Qü (Sakumzi Qumana) is a South African singer, songwriter and producer from Mdantsane in the Eastern Cape. He first gained recognition as a member of Johnny Cradle, the Roots-Electro band whose self-titled debut was released by Just Music in 2017 and which performed at festivals including Oppikoppi, Rocking the Daisies and Afropunk.
After leaving Johnny Cradle, Qü developed a more introspective solo sound combining alternative R&B, soul, reggae, dub and African influences. His solo album, 'Reprise on 2nd Avenue', features collaborations with artists including Solethu Madasa, Lwanda Gogwana, Lazola Ndamase, Amarafleur and N.A.N.Z. The album explores themes of love, spirituality, relationships, personal experience and social issues, with Qü also taking a hands-on role in its production. Reprise on 2nd Avenue was nominated for 'Best Produced Album' at the 2025 South African Music Awards (SAMA31), further establishing Qü as a distinctive voice within South Africa's independent alternative music scene.
