Tatjana Masurenko, Oliver Triendl, Vogler Quartett - Dvořák: String Quintet No. 3 & Piano Quintet No. 2 (2016)

Following the successful edition featuring Antonín Dvořák’s complete string quartets, the Vogler Quartet returns to his chamber music. The London premiere of the String Quintet, op.81, marked the composer’s international breakthrough. In 1893 the “New World” Symphony was followed by two chamber compositions: first by the String Quartet in F major (the “American Quartet”) and later by the Piano Quintet in E flat major recorded here. While the Quartet numbers among Dvořák’s most popular works, the Quintet – also because of its form – is largely unknown. The composer himself termed these two compositions his “best and most original” works.
