Review by Scott Yanow
Cal Collins' second of two unaccompanied guitar sets was also his final Concord album as a leader before he decided to return to his native Cincinnatti. Because his style was based in the swing era, Collins' style is quite melodic and self-sufficient; one does not miss the other rhythm section players. He performs concise interpretations of nine standards plus his own "Suzie Q." The highlights include "On the Atchison, Topeka and the Santa Fe," "But Beautiful," "Autumn Iin New York" and Hank Williams' "I Can't Help It."
