The pieces selected by Sergio Ciomei for this CD are divergent both stylistically and chronologically and provide interesting examples of Debussy’s reinterpretation of musical structures from the past.

“Suite Bergamasque”, “Images” and “Children’s Corner” are all composed of (freely re-imagined) dance movements typical of the Baroque Suite. Ciomei started developing a strong interest in this aspect of Debussy’s music through his work as an organ and harpsichord player. This music on this disc aims to suggest that Debussy’s creativity was drawn from poetry and pictorial works - ideas from outside the world of music.
