Jaana Narsipur - Better Than Anything (2022)

Jaana Narsipur's album "Better Than Anything" is a tribute to the bebop and hard bop legends Bob Dorough and Horace Silver. The album features original arrangements (all by Jaana) of Dorough and Silver’s classic swing and groove tunes, as well as beautiful lesser-known gems from these jazz masters. Dorough's ballad "But For Now" shines in an intricately-arranged setting with a string quartet and the rhythm section. By contrast, Silver's bawdy, fun "The Jody Grind" becomes seriously funky with the addition of Rhodes electric piano, and the lusty tenor sax and trumpet trading through the outro.
