After spending years in the Nashville music scene as an avid trombonist and guitarist, Felter has now earned a Masters of Music in Jazz Studies and is on his way to a PhD in Music Theory. With a dedication towards music education, and specifically jazz theory, Collin is pursuing a future where music academia is accessible, diverse, and pragmatic. Don’t worry, though, Felter’s academic pursuits are no hindrance to his career as a performer and artist. Still gigging regularly as a live and studio musician, Felter has kept his performance chops at the forefront of his musical persona. Performing with the likes of Sheryl Crow, Michael W. Smith, CeCe Winans, Avenue Beat, Brothers of Brass, and countless others, Collin has developed a plethora of performance and studio experience that not only inform his musicianship, but also his career in academia. With ample gigging experience under his belt and a future in music academia underway, Felter has also dedicated time to his artistry. Phases, Felter’s sophomore solo album, is set to release in early 2022 and showcase his compositional and performance stylings through a programmatic record depicting “phases” from his life. Together these three facets of Collin Felter, gigging musician, academic, and artist, come together to form a unique and professional musical package.
