The Bertoncini/Moore pairing has obviously had amazing legs, enduring three decades. This was their first recorded collaboration, and has the traits that such an early effort usually has when it leads to more: great thoughtfulness, startling moments of synchronicity between Bertoncini's guitar and Moore's bass, pellucid interpretations...and a certain measure of caution. Whether their material is classical (the Bach is sober and lovely) or traditional Tin Pan Alley, or bossa nova like "Insensatez"--the latter a particular sound they've developed together subsequently--it's satisfying, but more so if one hears it one cut at a time, a la iPod-in-shuffle-mode, than uninterrupted.

Guitar – Gene Bertoncini
Bass – Michael Moore
