Oli Kuster, Cyrill Ferrari, and Dee Byrne return with new album Algorithmic Quotidian, building on their 2021 debut release Motherboard Pinball (Efpi Records, FP040) which was conceived, recorded, and meticulously produced remotely during the various Covid lockdowns of 2020. The trio’s artistic methods may have initially emerged as a creative response to the isolation and uncertainty of that time, but such was the potential and sheer enjoyment of their collaboration, all three were keen to continue with their exciting exploration of imagined digital worlds even as the ‘real’ world tentatively began to reopen across 2021.
Algorithmic Quotidian continues with Motherboard Pinball’s futuristic themes but sees Kuster, Ferrari, and Byrne take a noticeable musical step forward whilst retaining a recognisable band sound and identity. Open-eared fans of artists/bands such as Aphex Twin, Autechre, John Zorn, The Comet is Coming, Anna Meredith, or Kid A era Radiohead will find plenty here to enjoy.
