Samâ-ï is the sixth publication of the set by Ambronay Éditions. This latest opus brings a new stone to a musical edifice of great coherence. This time it is Syria and the city of Aleppo that Canticum Novum celebrates by showing us the incredible cultural and musical richness of this city which was a jewel of the Middle East.
At the crossroads of Spanish repertoires and traditional Syrian pieces, Canticum Novum follows the journey of the Arab-Andalusians, who, after the fall of Granada, chose to return to the land of their ancestors, in the Middle East.
The Samâ-ï program evokes this cultural crossroads that was ancient Aleppo and the musical impregnation of the cultures present. With this new album, Canticum Novum reflects the richness and complexity of the poetic, literary and linguistic registers that have matured in this fertile melting pot of religions and cultures which we see were never impermeable, fixed and identity blocks. but bridges between people, their needs for creativity and their spiritual aspirations.
