Bay City Rollers is a Scottish band that was at the peak of its popularity in the 1970s.
They formed in Edinburgh in 1966 under the name "The Saxons", but soon changed their name, which was decided by throwing a dart that landed on a map near Bay City, Michigan. The band's first manager was Tam Paton, and their recordings were initially released by Bell Records. Their first big hit was "Keep On Dancing" in 1971, a cover of The Gentrys' 1965 song. Their breakthrough came in 1974 with "Remember (Sha La La La)", followed by "Shang-a-Lang", "Summerlove Sensation" and "All of Me Loves All of You". In 1975, they went on tour in England, and in 1976 they also broke into the American market. In 1976, Alan Longmuir left the band and was replaced by Ian Mitchell, who was later replaced by Pat McGlynn. In the same year, their LP Dedication was released with a cover of Dusty Springfield's "I Only Wanna Be With You". In 1978, McKeown broke away to pursue a solo career and Tam Paton was fired. They continued to operate under the name "The Rollers", at that time they were oriented in the direction of new wave and rock. They performed in Japan in 1982 and 1983, in the 1990s they released several CDs with re-arranged versions of old songs.
