This music was written between December 2020 and March 2021, during a stay in Buenos Aires. It started as an experiment or exercise to expand some compositions of mine for a larger group and ended with the six songs on the album. Ever since I heard Andrew Hill's Dusk album I wanted to put together a similar group (three horns plus rhythm section). On the other hand, at that time I was reading Richard Steinitz's Imagining Music of the Imagination, which talks about the music and life of György Ligeti, another great influence when thinking about the arrangements.
Then I was lucky to have a group of great musicians and friends to put all these ideas into practice. The process ended with a concert and a recording at the Doctor F studio with Florencio Justo and Agustín Silberleib. Pablo López Ruiz finished rounding off the sound with the mixes and the master in order to reach this final result.
On this album there is a deliberate search for a certain character that I could call “spooky”. The melodies, the textures and the group interaction try to capture the idea of something that is present but in a blurred way, like the fine line of a pencil or an old recording that, due to that lack of clarity, generate a kind of fascination to give it sense.
