Michael Vlatkovich - With You Jazz Cat (2021)

Trombonist and composer Michael Vlatkovich mixes traditional sounds with a two stepping team of Greg Ziboorg-Louis Lopez/tp, Bill Plake/ts, Andrew Paske/ss-bs, Wayne Peet/key, Dominic Genova/b and Ken Park/perc on a collection of originals. The team gives relaxed and cool tones of swing on pieces such as “Mister 60”, with the trombones plunging lower than Kim Kardashian’s neck line on the languid “I’ll Show Him Who He Thinks We Are” and “Don’t Know What You’ve Lost Until It’s Gone”. The rhythm team goes herky jerky like they have one short leg on the askance “Nursing Home Fashion Show” and the clippety clopping “Bob, The Fish That Discovered Water” while the team gets churchy with some organ grinding on “Friends 9113”. Festive and fragrant sounds.
