Bach's Christmas Oratorio is a highlight of the annual cycle for every musician associated with church music, and the performers on this album also got to know each other while performing this work. Making music together requires a keen sense of the musical breath of the entire ensemble - in short, wordless communication. The feeling of perfect agreement in their musical understanding, awakened in Ulrich Hermann and Kensuke Ohira the desire to record a completely new kind of CD album together. In their search for suitable works for bassoon and the organ of the Stiftskirche Stuttgart, they initially set their sights on three works of the Romantic period by Carl Maria von Weber, Camille Saint-Saëns and Gabriel Fauré. With the arrangements for bassoon and organ, one solo work each for bassoon and organ, respectively Organ and compositions from the 20th century by Charles Koechlin, Alexandre Tansman and Nino Rota, a multi-layered panorama of melodies, rhythms and sounds emerged from the musical dialogue. The experience of being able to express things through music that cannot be put into words, the experience of the natural unity of man and music and the merging into a great whole when making music in an ensemble, led the artists to choose the title of this CD: Unio mystica.
