Each of the songs is drenched in sincerity – even when that sincerity is obviously tongue-in-cheek. Silver People is an Atlanta-based musical collaborative led by multi-instrumentalist and songwriter, Jake Reeves. The group’s first full-length album, Gnome Country, explores the realm of psychedelic folk and is informed by the East-meets-West and pastoral British acoustic musings of the likes of Vashti Bunyan, Clark-Hutchinson, Burt Jansch, Nick Drake and Syd Barrett and, of later vintage, artists, and groups such as Devendra Banhart, Dungen, Elliott Smith and Six Organs of Admittance.
With Gnome Country, Silver People can also be heard respectfully incorporating touches of Indian and Turkish/Anatolian rock sounds, vibes and rhythms, as well as flourishes of triphop and downtempo evocative of such groups as Air and Massive Attack.
And in keeping with Silver People’s endless quest for a variety of compelling sounds, Gnome Country features an array of instrumentation, including Indian classical violins, the bağlama (a Turkish lute), flutes and vintage keyboards like the Mellotron and Farfisa.
