"Someday You'll come along, the man I love." With this little textual feint opens Louise Bøttern his debut album with the known Gershwin song. Ruse is to Ella, Billie and the other song, "Someday He'll come along, the man I love." Bøttern twister text and turns it against a specific person. So much for respect for the old standards. For respect for the original, it has Louise Bøttern. But she is also a mature debutant (born in 1975) who knows what she wants with the great American songbook. Along with the important cooperation partner, pianist Catrine Frølund has an elegant Scandinavian touch on the piano, has Bøttern made a vocal jazz album is technically well done. She also backed up by Kasper Vadsholdt on bass, Mikkel Find on drums and Jan Harbeck on sax and clarinet.
It takes a lot to get a place among the other Danish singers who also sings jazz standards. Here Bøttern missing anything yet, in spite of the fact that she chooses some minor worn standards. I miss a little more edge. Okay it's a reviewer cliché. But if there must be room for Louise Bøttern, she must step forward and show something more personality. It is not unlikely that she has it. Perhaps it out at the venues - the plate is not right.
