Good Rocking Sam plays what we call Modern Blues with Deep Roots. Most of the songs in our set list are originals, which draw inspiration from the great Chicago and Texas blues artists of the 1950's and 60's, Memphis Soul, and most everything we've heard and learned on our journeys across America. It is highly danceable, highly listenable, and we have been very successful at playing at a volume that is comfortable for the audience.

As a follow up to 2006's Luxury Life, we spent 3 months recording demos before we went into the studio with Dick Hodgin at Osceola Recording Studios in May of 2014. Joining the 4 core members, Mike Conway, Dave Sword, Chuck Taylor, and David Mozier, were T.A. James and Lenny Terenzi on guitars, and Joe Bell on Blues Harp and vocals. T.A. played on tracks 1 - 11, Lenny played the cool West Coast guitar parts on One Of Us Has Got To Go.

Many of the songs in this collection are from the perspective of a working man, laid up with injuries or being run down by his boss. Others deal with breakups, infidelity, financial hardship, personal loss, shame, and girls & cars.

A few of the songs, such as Money and Trouble, and Black Coffee, have been around since we formed the band, others such as Lorraine were written weeks before we went into the studio. It was difficult to decide which songs to include and which to leave out. We have a problem of writing an average of a song per rehearsal.

Good Rocking Sam has been writing songs and performing in the greater Durham, NC area , and at regional festivals for 13 years. T.A. James, currently with Mel Melton & The Wicked Mojos, was a member of Carrie Bell's touring band for several years. Lenny Terenzi was a founding member of Mighty Lester. Joe Bell is the leader of The Stinging Blades and has been playing in the Durham/Chapel Hill area for nearly 30 years.
