Presenting the acclaimed violinist Boris Begelman playing a selection of J.S. Bach’s violin sonatas & partitas. This program for baroque violin reveals Bach, not only as a truly unique composer, but also as an accomplished and fastidious craftsman, with an acute sense of effective colour and an ability to blend stylistically divergent features into a fluent and satisfying whole. The album includes liner notes by Boris Begelman about the ornamentation and embellishment of the melody as one of the most interesting aspects of the 18th century music performance. Performing on a violin by Louis Moitessier from the 1790s, Boris Behelman’s performance is characteristically energetic and stylish. Boris Begelman is the concert master of the recently founded orchestra Amici Veneziani. This group was founded by soprano Simone Kermes and combines the best musicians she has worked with during the last five years. This hand-picked team of highly qualified musicians devise repertoires of baroque and early classical music which they perform on original instruments. Boris Begelman was born in Moscow in 1983 and began his violin studies at the early age of seven. After music school and college he studied at the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory. Following his growing interest in Early Music, Boris obtained his diploma in baroque violin (magna cum laude) at the Conservatorio Bellini di Palermo with Enrico Onofri (violin) and Riccardo Minasi (chamber music) in January 2013. Boris has appeared as concertmaster as well as soloist with some of the finest baroque orchestras today including “Il Complesso Barocco” (Italy), “Accademia Bizantina” (Italy), the “Jerusalem Baroque Orchestra” (Israel). He has performed as soloist with orchestras under the baton of Giovanni Antonini, Ottavio Dantone, Enrico Onofri and other world-renowned conductors.
