Cellist Mstislav Rostropovich was a close friend of the Sergei Prokofiev, who dedicated him his cello sonata and symphony-concerto. In the late 1980s, Rostropovich paid homage to his mentor by recording superb albums with the Orchestre national de France, including War and Peace and the complete cycle of symphonies. Here is the first volume, with the beloved Classical Symphony and the third one, with its unique atmosphere, violent and wild-eyed.
