The concept album MPQ is a mix between contemporary jazz and 70’s sounds, tending towards the British progressive scene with its special tone colours and effects which aim to create an unusual ambience, somewhat atypical of jazz.
The mood or atmosphere at certain moments in the CD may remind listeners of groups such as Portishead or Nine Inch Nails.
The musical material is closely linked to human emotivity:
profoundness, excitement, happiness and contemplation are the key ideas that inspired the various tracks.
As in Kimèra (the group’s first album published in 2013), the Mirko Pedrotti Quintet has created an album consisting of two parts: the first with clearly defined pieces (the first 6 tracks) and the second with the experimental and freer Suite - parts D,E,F.
These consist of three improvisations by Mirko Pedrotti (vibraphone) and Gianluca Petrella (trombone /synthesizer) recorded live by Ivan Benvenuti with substantial use of delay, fuzz, reverb and other effects which carefully follow the development of the improvisations.
