Ópalo - La Edad Invisible (2023)

Caracteres first release comes from the hand of Ópalo, an Ecuadorian project named after the gemstone associated with the sacral chakra. It is said it has properties to moderate and harmonize sexual desires and balance problems with addictions. In some cultures it is believed that Opal is a symbol of hope, purity and truth.

La Edad Invisible is Ópalo's first release and first LP. The idea of the project is to share fine cuts of electronica, ambient and idm, heavenly influenced by the 90's trip-hop scene. Ópalo is a fictional electronic band, which uses keyboards, drum machines and synthesizers to create contemporary pieces of music. The name of the album is given after an abstract idea of an age the artist didn't want to be noticed, and also the age that is not noticeable in physical characteristics.

The album starts off with two laid back tunes, inspired in the melancholy and sadness that the artist experimented during a family conflict. As the album evolves, ambient pieces serve as interlude for new instrumental nocturne tracks. Some of this pieces where composed for video art and then included as part of the LP.

An important part of the development of the album is the continuous collaboration with the visual artist Joaquin Dávila, which asked Romero to put some music together for his video art projects. He also designed and composed the image of the artwork, giving the album a unique concept.
