Long-inspired to record with an early mentor, the great Chicago pianist Willie Pickens, guitarist Peter Lerner formed a quartet with Pickens, bassist Marlene Rosenberg, and drummer Charles Heath and spent two years developing their rapport and repertoire for this recording. Expanded to an octet for "Continuation," with saxophonist Geof Bradfield, trumpeter Victor Garcia, trombonist Andy Baker and Joe Rendon on percussion, the band creates wide ranging textures as they navigate 6 Lerner originals along with "Jean de Fleur" by Grant Green & "La Mesha" by Kenny Dorham.
