The album tackles topics including gendered thinking, child soldiers, the impact of crime and punishment, loss, and love in its many forms, and features collaborations with award-winning songwriter Karine Polwart, poet Rachel Fox and Gudrun Walther & Juergen Treyz, Kim's bandmates in the Germany based trad folk band, CARA. Recorded at Artes TonStudio, Esslingen (Germany) & at Caribou Recording (Scotland), Kim's songs are enhanced by Kevin McGuire (bass), Mattie Foulds (drums), Su-a Lee (cello), Gudrun Walther (violin, viola), Fergus Kerr (french horn), Michael Owers (trombone, bass trombone & sousaphone) and Inge Thomson (backing vocals).
