Known for his bold, cutting tone on the tenor sax, Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis has a distinctive and recognizable sound. The artist turned in some fine work on the Prestige label, and some of the best of that work is featured on the Davis edition of PRESTIGE PROFILES. In the 20 tracks on offer, Davis plays with organists Shirley Scott and Richard Groove Holmes, as well as the famed multi-instrumental genius Roland Kirk. But Davis also appears in solo mode, playing many of his own excellent blues-infused compositions. This is a superb overview of Davis's tenure at Prestige, and a fine introduction to his style in general.
