Ludovit Rajter, the former pupil of Franz Schmitt, Joseph Marx and Ernő Dohnányi, has won a considerable international reputation as a conductor, having previously held posts as conductor of the Budapedst Radio, Bratislava Radio Orchestra and Slovakian Philharmonic, which he founded. Since he died in the year 2000, one might think that he was yet another twentieth-century innovator. On the contrary, Rajter had deep roots in the Austro-Hungarian tradition of his teachers and his own music is melodious, colourful in instrumentation and influenced by Slavic and Hungarian folklore.
