Tenor-saxophonist Bennie Wallace's second album as a leader, a pianoless date with bassist Eddie Gomez and drummer Dannie Richmond, is similar in style to his first. A few years later he would rediscover his Southern roots and add some r&bish rhythms to his music but at this point Wallace's accompaniment was sparse and sometimes bordered on the avant-garde. Wallace, whose huge tone (looking back toward Ben Webster) has always contrasted with his wide interval jumps and advanced improvising, stretches out on two originals, "In A Sentimental Mood" and "Blue Monk" during this stimulating session.
