Pianist presents an album recorded entirely in improvisation, based on the feeling of freedom that guides his art
Result of a deep study in improvisation, pianist and composer from São Paulo Henrique Mota releases Concerto Livre, an album that arrives on digital platforms on March 24th. Divided into five parts, the album has videos that have been released on its YouTube channel since the end of 2022.
In his immersion process in the art of improvisation, Henrique sought out references such as Keith Jarrett, Chick Corea, Brad Mehldau, Egberto Gismonti and Hermeto Pascoal. And a few moments before entering the studio, the musician was still in doubt if it would work, but when he heard “recording” he realized that the music happened “it was a natural process, it was a process of transmutation”, as he says.
Improvisations are common in Brazilian music when you have a theme to improvise. However, in this work, Henrique relied on freedom, allowing the moment and his feelings to guide him to create during the recording. With a jazz, blues and classical music sound, his music goes through consonant, dissonant expressions and a technique of muffling the piano strings with the pedal.
