Paul Morvan and Alex Gilson are two well-known sidemen of the Parisian scene, first of all friends and musicians within numerous formations who gave countless concerts, passionate about swing and bebop, and who used confinement and the pandemic to consider and think about the aftermath of all this, that is to say above all to compose, organize and plan their exit from the usual role of sidemen that they had held until then. It must be said that they had traveled almost the same initiatory journey: training at the conservatory, stays in New York to learn from masters of the genre (Lester Young, Charlie Parker, Nat King Cole, Art Blakey, Ray Brown, Cole Porter) and nights in jam sessions in Paris... So they came together as a collective and began to animate the famous Jam Session of the Duc des Lombards, every Friday from the summer of 2022. Today they offer us the fruit of this work, and it's great! Paul Morvan is on drums, Alex Gilson on double bass, Amaury Faye on piano, Michel Pastre on tenor saxophone, Björn Ingelstam on trumpet and vocals, and their special guest, Hetty Kate, on vocals. The first idea was to break the codes and for the bass/drums duo to take the lead in the group… also with a set of musicians who were able to enter the danger zone without burning their wings. Totally controlled risk-taking thanks to absolute trust in each other. Confidence that we feel through all the notes distilled during the ten tracks of this opus. Six pieces are composed by members of the formation and three titles are pieces composed by Cole Porter, Gordon Jenkins and the trio Segal, Brooks and McCarthy JR. A complete success!
