Synthfreq - Vol. 1 (2023)

The Morales twins, Danielle and Crystal, hail from Austin, Texas, where the duo, known as Synthfreq, are infamous for their extreme musical prowess. Although severely hearing and visually impaired, the sisters have developed a unique form of communication between them, a musical connection that exemplifies an incredibly tight bond and ability to feel music in a way that most people cannot.

Ever since they were young, the twins have been obsessed with synthesis. Though faced with many technological obstacles that are well known in the deaf and blind community, they have spent their lives honing their craft. Memorizing the menu architecture of their synthesizers, adding braille to the interface, enlarging manuals with specialized screen readers— at every turn, they thwart seemingly insurmountable roadblocks to creation.

Each sound is designed so that they can either feel or hear them with hearing aids via music program installed, which pitches sounds into audible frequencies for their range of hearing.

The sisters’ story is one of immense talent, courage, and perseverance. In spite of the many challenges they face, they continue to produce some of the most innovative and expansive music out there; we hear gentle new age ballads, synth funk, dance pop and more, all filtered through their unique process and perspective. This record is a collection of the sisters compositions and improvisations, mostly ripped and remastered from their youtube channel, and serves as a powerful reminder that anything is possible with enough passion and determination.
