He transformed from the son of a preacher into a cowboy, then into a Hollywood badman with a lifestyle to match, then into a much-loved born-again Christian - and his songwriting and performing reflected every aspect of that action-packed life.

Here are songs that reflect the things that actually happened to him - the adventures of Pokolodie Bill, the discovery of a lone prospector who died in his mountain shack in This Ole House and the inspiration he gained from his conversion in It Is No Secret.

Here too are versions of others of his most famous compositions including Pony Express, I Won't Go Hunting With You Jake, Remember Me (I'm The One Who Loves You) and the cowboy classic Texas Plains.

The tracks follow the development of his skills as a performer and interpreter of songs from his earliest recordings in 1927 to some of his early 1960s beautiful updates of his most loved songs.

This is the first CD release to embrace 35 years of this man's amazing recording career in one release.

28 full-length tracks encompassing cowboy songs, blues, love songs, ballads, adventure songs and sacred songs

Extensive liner notes by country music radio presenter and writer Paul Hazell.
