Guitarist Gene Bertoncini wrote about this CD: 'I absolute love the CD. It sounds so full and everybody's performing is amazing, cooking, and the ideas are all so clear and fresh...5 stars in my book and I hope it gets a lot of exposure.' Katrina-Kasey Wheeler of Jazzreview.com writes: 'The artistry is nothing short of spectacular...
Phil DeGreg, Dan Faehnle, and Paul Keller are consummate musicians. This trio truly radiates talent that is instantly audible from the moment the CD begins to play! This is a must add to your collection. I have no doubt that you will enjoy it immensely as did I.' Trio Con Brio is a collective group consisting of pianist Phil DeGreg, guitarist Dan Faehnle and string bassist Paul Keller. Their personal and musical empathy for each other shines through on this CD. Trio Con Brio literally means 'Trio with Liveliness and Spirit.' It is a very appropriate moniker for this exceptional jazz group. Faehnle and Keller are both former sidemen of pianist/singer Diana Krall. Phil DeGreg is the house pianist at Cincinnati's Blue Wisp Jazz Club as well as professor of jazz at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and former member of Woody Herman's Thundering Herd. This CD was recorded LIVE at 8200 Brill, the home of jazz impresario David Hall in Cincinnati, Ohio. The recording engineer was Stan Hertzman. Mr. Hall invited 16 of his favorite jazz listeners to this recording session where the atmosphere was relaxed and cordial. In the living room of Mr. Hall's lovely home lives his beautiful 7 foot Bosendoerfer grand piano. This incredible instrument comes to life in the the capable hands of Phil DeGreg. Not only are the sonic qualities of this CD enhanced by this extraordinary piano but there is also a palpable sense of excitement from the musicians and the guests. Rick Bird of the Cincinnati Post writes: David Hall has given us another in the tremendous series of his 'living room concerts' with the release of 'Trio Con Brio' featuring piano man Phil DeGreg along with guitarist Dan Faehnle and bassist Paul Keller. The three don't just play with 'brio' but are downright smokin' on this session... it's a jazz album that rocks out with all three performers taking lead at some point, running through a mix of standards and two of Keller's originals...
