Heavy Confetti is an instrumental group lead by guitarist/songwriter Steven Biver. Their groove oriented sound blends R&B fusion, jazz and blues rock. HEAVY CONFETTI is a five piece instrumental band that work out of Richmond, Virginia. They are Steven Biver – Guitar, Daniel Clarke – Piano, organ, Rhodes, percussion, Curtis Fye – Bass, Colin Killalea – Alto and tenor saxophones and Dusty Ray Simmons -Drums and percussion. They produce a groove based sound that combines the complexities of modern jazz with the lighter touch of what’s called “smooth” jazz – thus, I’m guessing, that’s the source of the name – “Heavy” for the toughness and “Confetti” for the drifting lightness.

Hear their sound at its best on their latest 5 track EP, ‘Afterglow’. A quick listen – as on the track ‘Moonflower’ – suggests the (melodic) lightness to which we’ve just alluded; repeated plays however reveal deeper shadings particularly via the interplay between Biver’s guitar, Clarke’s’ keys and the sax work of Killalea. There’s a relaxing, soulful feel throughout and in places Heavy Confetti’s music reminds me of some of the work of Chicago sax veteran John Klemmer.

“Excellent R & B fusion record that swirls together blues, jazz and rock for a stylish and rousing sound.”
