AVID Jazz presents the latest release in our Five Classic Album series with a second re-mastered 2CD release from Julie London, complete with original artwork, liner notes and personnel details.

"Lonely Girl"; "Calendar Girl"; "Julie"; "London By Night" and "Send For Me".

We present our long overdue second outing from the lady who was perhaps one of the most glamorous and alluring and under-rated jazz singers of the era, Miss Julie London. I guess the question we asked when we released our first Julie London set (AMSC1356) (Was she pop,or was she easy listening?) is still relevant as we release our long awaited second set although somewhat diminished by the fact that there just aren't the amount of record shops around today as there were back then. Hence the need for placing artists into fixed genres for the purpose of finding them in the racks is not so important. And we at AVID say thank heavens for that (although we of course are greatly saddened by the demise of the local record store). Take a listen to our best-selling first Julie London release and grab a copy of this new set and you will discover that Julie London was truly a great singer! We still think our lady could sing even the proverbial telephone directory and it would sound wonderful. For this release we have chosen another five of Julie London's more jazz influenced albums to highlight her prodigious talents. Just a look at some of the fine jazz musicians and arrangers on board for these recordings will tell you that Julie London was considered a serious singer in the jazz world. On our five fine favourites you will hear the work of musicians and arrangers like Al Viola, Buddy Cole, Al Hendickson, Milt Holland, Buddy Collette, Bud Shank, Pete Candoli, Georgie Auld, Red Callender, Howard Roberts, Pete King, Jimmy Rowles and Bobby Troup (Mr.London!). As with all AVID releases, we hope you enjoy this classic set and check out our extensive catalogue for more great music across jazz and many other musical genres.
