ROUND TRIPPER pays homage to Lisa's homeland and tells of her musical discoveries since moving to the United States over twenty years ago. Through musical interplay with long-time collaborator Australian guitarist Carl Dewhurst, they demonstrate that physical distance doesn't dull years of familiarity. Together with the formidable team of bassist Chris Lightcap and drummer Matt Wilson, they create a unique blend of American and Australian voices.
Modern jazz as well as world music listeners will appreciate the melodic approach to collective and interactive playing. This is the band’s signature approach whether they are swinging hard on Rosa Takes a Stand, playing jazz samba on Um A Zero, or grooving out on the Fela inspired, Afro beat tune, I Don’t Know What. Special guest, Nadje Noordhuis, plays trumpet on Lisa’s arrangement of the iconic Waltzing Matilda, and flugelhorn on the haunting, Do You Think That I Do Not Know. Inspired by a poem written by Henry Lawson in1910, this was co-written by Nicki and Lisa Parrott and features Lisa’s signature ballad playing on baritone sax.
In the words of Nadje Noordhuis, “Lisa Parrott has a zest for life and one of the most generous spirits that I've ever encountered. And through her saxophones, she relentlessly expresses these characteristics as well as a feeling of pure joy. As all expatriates know, it is possible to have more than one country that feels like home, and the journey back and forth between them yields many stories. Here are eight of them.
