PEOPLE SOUND is proud to present the debut EP from Sydney-based saxophonist and composer Hinano Fujisaki, “Home Is”.

After the release of the highly celebrated album "Where You Came From" from the collaborative trio project Sandcastles (PS006), Fujisaki continued to expand her practice as a composer. Here she draws inspiration from a wide range of music, from Japanese folk songs to Hermeto Pascoal to the Miles Davis album Live-Evil.

"I first wrote these pieces without a specific band or instrumentation in mind...and eventually I thought, who do I want to play with right now? And this group of people just made sense...It was really cool playing with these musicians and watching how their personalities shaped these songs into what they are."

While the elegant simplicity of her earlier compositions is still present, the new of ensemble of Bonnie Stewart on drums and voice (Bonniesongs), Lauren Tsamouras on piano (Another Green World PS010) and Jacques Emery (PS009) on double bass inspired a greater focus on creating a broad textural palette.

"I was so excited thinking about all the different different textures we could create with this group of people; I could play flute as well as sax, Lauren could play the organ, Bonnie could sing with her looping device, and Jacques could use lots of extended techniques."

As Fujisaki puts it, this is music to make you feel "warm and safe".
