Astghik Martirosyan - Distance (2023) Hi Res

The album “Distance” is a product of two parallel, yet widely divergent realities during the fall of 2020. While living in the early days of the pandemic in Boston, Astghik simultaneously received daily news from friends and family of the 45-day war in her homeland of Armenia. The music is a project born from intense reflection over the relationship between present and past, self and nation, and one’s inner emotional life and their homeland. These seven compositions weave between various genres and mediums, bearing the lyrical influences of poetry from Eastern Europe and Armenian folk songs, and the modalities of classical, jazz and improvisational music.

The album features Vardan Ovsepian on piano, Darek Oleszkiewicz on bass, Christian Euman on drums, Daniel Rotem on tenor saxophone, and Maksim Velichkin on cello.
