Toiret Status - He (2023)

He is the latest album from the scatologically technicolor electronic whizz Toiret Status. Toiret Status’ work has been heralded for combining a complex take on hyperreal sound collage that typifies the Orange Milk style while retaining a playful, bodily, and otherwise potty-centric modality. As with his previous albums, sampling and reworking sounds – a kind of digestion – is the core of how Toiret Status makes his intestine-bending songs. He was built through a systematic and daily practice of surfing and sampling online source material, like taking a digital multivitamin to promote digestion. He flatulates in brilliant ribbons of abstracted electronic patchwork; plopping between playful synthesis and samplephonic exploration, curious singing and quasi-rapping breaks, and dynamic sound design exploration, the album is radiantly bright as it circles the drain and reenters the water system. Fearlessly weaving genres and styles, the album amalgamates a wide array of touchstones; Zappa cronked prog, high-def digital sound collage shimmers, BGM hip hop, and jittery techno idioms. As with any sewer system, all the output comes together into one slippery swale of enchanting gasses, solids, and liquids.
