Listening to Reverend Freakchild's Hillbilly Zen-Punk Blues album reminds me of The Rev. Gary Davis' spirituality and Son House's raw dissonant sound. But more than that, I get the sense that Reverend Freakchild feels at home busking on the streets just like his blues predecessors. Every song, no matter the subject, no matter the style, has a sense of reaching out to humanity about it. ~CalvinPowers

Reverend Freakchild sings and plays resonator guitar. He often performs solo and is sometimes accompanied by a band. This latest project was recorded at Excello studios in Williamsburg, Brooklyn and enlisted the talents of New York master blues artist Hugh Pool, who not only co-produced with award winning Sal Paradise, but also plays some amazing harmonica and lap steel. The drummer for the session was the world famous Chris Parker, who has graced the stage and studio with many great musicians, such as Paul Butterfield, John Hammond Jr., Bob Dylan, and Joe Cocker. Also John Ragusa, who can often be heard with Beth Nelson Chapman and on many Deepak Chopra recordings, plays flute on track 6. The personnel on the album is finally fleshed out with Hugh Pool and John Ragusa (the Blues/Roots duo Mulebone) singing some beautiful backup vocals on tracks 1, 3 and 4. Enjoy the sounds!
